Adult Gardening & Landscaping

The Darien Nature Center is now offering classes for adults! Our Native Landscaping series will include six sessions, each covering a different topic on how to grow a healthy garden and make the best use of it year-round. A single session costs $35, or you can opt to sign up for all six classes for $175 — that’s one class free! Membership is NOT required.

Propagation

Lazy Guide to Composting and Compost Tea

There are easy and difficult ways to compost. This is an introduction to the easy way! Learn from dedicated composters, Deepika Saksena and Dan Hageney of CT Green, on methods that are simple to implement, don’t smell, and create rich, nutritious soil to feed your garden. What is compost tea? You won’t be drinking it, but your plants will love it! Samples will be available to bring home and try in your garden.

Gardening in the winter? Yes! Scratch that itch to get your hands in the soil. Get a head start on your planning for the spring and make a design for your beds. Ask design questions for areas of your garden that you would like to enhance this year. Identify native plant species that will suit your soil and light conditions, and then map them out on a hand-drawn schematic of your garden.
